On October 20, the India China Alliance Centre took a group of 22 school students on an educational trip to China.
Consider these statistics. Sino-Indian bilateral trade is growing at a phenomenal pace and will cross the US $10 billion mark soon. By 2010, the figure will shoot up to US $ 30 billion and trade with China will account for 20 per cent of India’s global trade.
The India China Alliance Centre has decided to promote not only business delegations between the two countries (ICAC) but also educational tours as well. “After all children will be the greatest benefactors of the trade ties between the two countries,” says Piyush Bahl, CEO, ICAC. On October 20, the organisation took a group of 22 students and Principals from schools like Springdales, Manav Sthali, Modern School and Bhatnagar International on a six-day educational tour to China that included visits to the Peking University besides schools in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenyang. Students also visited factories, technology parks and attended lecture sessions. Interestingly, the group comprised 18 girls from Classes VII, IX and XI.
ICAC plans to take over 5,000 students every year on an exchange-cum-learning programme to the country. A trip is also being planned for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Delhi University from December 27 to January 2, 2005. Engineering colleges and medical colleges will be included in the exchange programme as well.
ICAC has initiated a dialogue with the Embassy of China in New Delhi to set up a China Trade Centre in Gurgaon. Plans are also on the anvil to set up a centre where patients can avail of the famous Chinese acupuncture method of cure.
