A 50-year-old man, the father of a former militant, was shot dead in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district by terrorists, police said on Sunday.

Three militants led by Mohammad Amin, the area commander of the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) separatist outfit, barged into Ghulam Mohammad Chaupan's house in Sigdi village, some 250 km from in Jammu, Saturday night and shot him dead, an official said.

Chaupan was the father of Raquib, a HuJI militant who had surrendered before the security forces in 2007.
"This appears to be a revenge killing. Families of militants who have surrendered are soft targets of active militants and they intimidate them," the official said.
