Babu Parmanand, former governor of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir minister, passed away here Thursday after a prolonged illness. He was 76.

Parmanand was suffering from multiple diseases and breathed his last at 12.30 a.m., according to family sources.

He was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Parmanand was speaker of Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly in 1980 and a minister in the cabinet of Farooq Abdullah in 1982.
He was appointed as the governor of Haryana in June 2000.
