Four arrested in Karnataka student rape case

Four people were taken into custody in connection with the rape of a fourth year MBBS student in Udipi on June 21, Karnataka Minister for Home KJ Geroge said yesterday.

Four people were taken into custody in connection with the rape of a fourth year MBBS student in Udipi on June 21, Karnataka Minister for Home KJ Geroge said on Sunday.

Speaking to newsmen after visiting the victim who was undergoing treatment in a hospital, the minister said the investigation has been taken up on a serious note and strict instructions have been given to the concerned to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

Stating that the culprits, however big they may be will be dealt with an iron hand, Mr George said that it is the duty of the government to provide security to University Campus and after discussing with the concerned authorities steps will be taken in this direction.

Meanwhile, IGP Pratap Reddy said that 8 teams were formed to nab the culprits and the police have obtained clues about rickshaw driver and other culprits involved in the crime.

The fourth year MBBS student was kidnapped in an auto rickshaw while she was returning home from Library on June 21 and was gang raped by the culprits before dropping her near her apartment.
