Bomb explosions were reported from at least four places in and around the Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo on Tuesday.
The police confirmed two blasts and said that there were no casualties.
According to the Inspector General of Police, Chandra Fernando, there were only two explosions, a fairly big one at Cotta Road within Colombo at 7.45 pm, and a smaller one at Nugegoda at 8.05 pm.
"We do not know what kind of explosives they were, but the target was probably a railway train, as they were near a rail track," Fernando said.
Unofficial sources said that there were explosions at Mount Lavinia and Kiribathgoda, just outside Colombo.
It is significant that the blasts occurred when the Norwegian Peace Envoy, Erik Solheim, was in Colombo talking to the Sri Lankan leadership about the peace process ahead of his landmark meeting with the LTTE chief, Velupillai Prabhakaran, in Kilinochchi on Wednesday.
