A girl and three others were injured as violent protests continued in the valley over the death of a youth who was killed in an Army camp by the troops after he allegedly intruded there.
The clashes between police and angry people rocked Batmaloo, Maisuma, Gawkadal and adjoining areas for most part of the day, disrupting normal life, official sources said.
The youth, Sajad Ahmad Lone, was shot down by the Army troops at Watergam army camp, 65 kms from here in Baramulla district, on Saturday. While the Army said the youth was killed in self-defence after he intruded into a camp, the locals accused army of killing him without any provocation, prompting district authorities to order a magisterial probe into the incident.
Chanting pro-freedom slogans, youths took to streets at Maisuma and adjoining areas including Gawkadal in the heart of the city today and indulged in stone-pelting on police.
Police used batons and fired teargas shells to disperse them injuring two persons, they said adding the fresh protests sparked by the rumours that one of the youth, injured in police action yesterday, succumbed.
Within no time, the clashes spread to Batmaloo locality in central Srinagar where two more persons including a girl were injured, sources said.
