Four killed as car falls from Shahad flyover

Four Ulhasnagar residents died when their car fell from the 30-ft-high Shahad railway station overbridge. They have been identified as Deepak Ruplani, Dharmendra Jaisinghani, Rajesh Lulla and Sanjay Chhabria, reports Kiran Sonawane.

They have been identified as Deepak Ruplani (25), Dharmendra Jaisinghani (30), Rajesh Lulla (28) and Sanjay Chhabria (30).

The Hyundai Santro belonged to Lulla, who published the Timki Time, a local weekly newspaper, from Ulhasangar. The others were in the construction business.

A friend of the deceased, on condition of anonymity, said, “They all lived in Ulhasnagar Camp No 2. After partying late into the night with a police officer at Vatika restaurant at Camp No 2, they went to Kalyan’s Birla College area to drop him off. The accident occurred at the Shahad over-bridge when they were returning from Kalyan to Ulhasnagar.

Autorickshaw driver Shekhar Ratnakar, who witnessed the accident, said, “As always, I was waiting with other auto drivers for late night customers at Shahad railway station’s rickshaw stand. Suddenly, we heard a huge bang, like a bomb explosion. We ran towards the railway station for shelter, returning to the spot after a little while.”

Inspector Srimant Ghule said, “Our team rushed to the hospital, but the duty doctors told us all four men had died before admission. We’ve taken blood samples, preserved the internal organs for further testing, and registered it as an accident.”
