Four killed in Haryana grenade explosion

Five persons, four of them minors, were injured when a grenade picked up as scrap from an army firing range exploded in a village.

Four persons, including two children, were killed and five persons, four of them minors, were injured when a grenade picked up as scrap from an army firing range exploded in a village near Hissar on Tuesday evening.

Some residents of village Bodhraj, about 20 kms from Hissar, picked up some scrap, including grenades lying in the open nearby at a place used by the army as a firing range, police sources said adding probably a live grenade was left behind after the practice.

The grenade exploded outside a house of one Desraj killing four persons Harpal (33), Bobby (26), Kala (18) and Jasbir (12) and injuring five others, police said.

The injured Meena (25), wife of Bobby and four children Sanjay (10), Sunil (six), Gulshan (six) and Vicky (eight) were taken to hospital, which then referred them to the PGI Hospital at Rohtak.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the dependents of each of the two adults Harpal and Bobby and Rs 50,000 to each of the families of two minors Kala and Jasbir killed in the explosion.
