Assam Rifles personnel, who were patrolling Zou Ven area in Churachandpur district, asked two persons in a van to stop for checking, but the occupants refused, sources said.

Due to suspicion, the security personnel fired at them, killing them on the spot.

A pistol was recovered from the possession of the deceased.

In another encounter, two militants were shot dead in Sora area in Thoubal district by security personnel, sources said, adding that the police recovered one AK 56 rifle, one hand grenade and some rounds of ammunition.
