The new stadium of Frankfurt was completed to supersede the old Waldstadion. The construction was done keeping in mind the green environs of Waldstadion.
The construction that began in 2002 was completed only in 2005. The total cost amounted to € 171 million by the time the structure was ready to host its first event.

It has hosted some of memorable matches like the 1974 World cup semi-final between West Germany and Poland, and the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 Final between Brazil and Argentina.
The new stadium is home to Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.
