A press communiqué issued by State president of Tempo Taxi Mahasangh, Uttar Pradesh, Ram Gopal Puri stated that the decision was taken during a joint meeting in the office of the State Transport Commissioner in Lucknow.

The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner RP Shukla, Chief Managing Director of Green Gas Limited JK Singh and Ram Gopal Puri.

The free insurance cover will be provided by the Green Gas Limited. However, the drivers of CNG-run three-wheelers should be in possession of valid commercial driving license.

According to Puri, about 30,000 drivers in Agra, Lucknow and Kanpur will benefit from the scheme.

Under the proposed free insurance cover, the families of drivers getting injured or losing their lives in accidents will get compensation worth Rs 2 lakh. The process of free insurance cover would start soon, after completing the survey of valid drivers in the three cities, added Puri.

Puri also informed that those who had applied for driving license during the ‘License Mela’ were likely to be issued licenses soon.

In the first phase, licenses will be issued in Kanpur South.

Other prominent leaders of the Tempo Mahasangh who accompanied Puri to the meeting with the transport commissioner included Shakil Ahmad, Munna Sarkar, Shashi Tiwari, Ramesh Mishra, Pawan Panday and Sartaj Ali.
