She was 93.

Influenced by her freedom fighter father, Banarsi Singh, Sharma joined the freedom movement and participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942.

Sharma also worked for the welfare of women, and joined CPI in 1946. She had also been president of Bihar Mahila Samaj, the women's wing of CPI.

She was jailed several times during the freedom movement and later in Independent India for agitating over various issues.

Her body was taken to the party headquarters where CPI leaders and workers paid floral tributes. She was later taken to her ancestral village Sahur in Lakhisarai district of the state.

Her last rites will be performed on Monday at Simaria Ghat along the Ganga River in Begusarai district.
