Learning about the cycle of Karma most people were apprehensive about how to get out of the cycle. What do we do with all the Karma that we continually accumulate? This theory also gives rise to reincarnation. Does it have to continue endlessly? And the answer of Vedanta is No, it does not have to continue endlessly but it will not stop by itself. We do have a choice to get out of this.

The Vedas say that as long as we are within the ambit of Karma, we cannot separate Karma from its effect. The only thing that we can do is to separate ourselves from Karma and its effect. And what connects us to our work is our sense of “I am the doer”. What connects us to the result of work is our sense of “I am the experiencer”. If this sense of doer-ship is removed then we are free from Karma.

Why do we need Karma? The answer is that we really do not need Karma. But what we do need in life is the explanation for why things are there where they are and Karma provides one possible answer. Looking at the world we find some people are happy and some not so, some die young and some live long. What determines these varied outcomes in life? Karma is one possible answer.
