Fresh chikungunya case reported in Delhi

A small lull later, Delhi has a fresh case of chikungunya, increasing the country's figures to 1,674.

After a brief lull, Delhi has reported one fresh case of chikungunya, taking the total figure in the country to 1,674.

"One fresh case of chikungunya was reported in the national capital since noon today. The total number of people affected with the viral in the country is 1,674," P L Joshi, Director of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, told reporters today.

Since noon today, the total number of new suspected chikungunya cases were 753, of which 17 were sent for tests. One in Delhi was tested positive, said Joshi.

In the national capital, 32 people have been affected with the viral disease so far.

The total number of 13,64,135 suspected fever cases were reported in the country since January this year, of which 14,465 were sent for examinations.

The maximum number of chikungunya cases have been reported from Maharasthra (679), followed by Karnataka (294) and Andhra Pradesh (248).
