Fresh clashes broke out between angry youths, protesting the killing of a 17-year-old student allegedly in CRPF firing, and police in the city leaving six injured as traders, demanding removal of a security force picket, called off their stir on Sunday.
Police fired teargas shells and used batons at several places in summer capital Srinagar to disperse stone-pelting youths who were demanding a probe into the killing of student Inayatullah Khan.
The skirmishes, which erupted at Gojwara, Bohrikadal, Kawdara, Maisuma, Gawkadal and other places, left six injured and disrupted normal life, official sources said.
A resident of Dalgate, Khan, who was critically injured allegedly in CRPF firing at Lal Chowk on Friday, succumbed to injuries yesterday.
Youths also hurled stones at police and para-military forces at Dalgate, a tourist hub, as the city saw pitched battles for the fifth day in a row.
Traders of Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, called off their stir and said they would resume normal business from tomorrow.
They ended their agitation after the authorities gave an assurance that their demand for removal of a CRPF picket near defunct Palladium cinema would be looked into sympathetically.
