Fresh plan afoot to develop holy city

PREPARATION OF a fresh plan has been started under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Mission scheme for the development of the holy city. After holding a meeting with the departments concerned here on Wednesday for the preparation of city plan, Special Secretary Urban Development Department of UP Government SP Singh informed mediapersons that there will be no lack of funds for the implementation of a city plan.

After holding a meeting with the departments concerned here on Wednesday for the preparation of city plan, Special Secretary Urban Development Department of UP Government SP Singh informed mediapersons that there will be no lack of funds for the implementation of a city plan.

He informed that a private agency ‘Feed Back Ventures’ has been assigned the responsibility for the preparation of a city plan in Varanasi.

“This private agency has been directed to ask the concerned departments to prepare the city plan within three months,” he said.

“The 50 per cent expenditure for the implementation of the city plan would be funded by the Central government while 20 per cent and 30 per cent amount would be funded by the state government etc,” he added.

Singh said that the Central government would examine the city plan before releasing funds for its implementation.

He informed that it was made clear to the departments concerned to include the earlier big proposals of development plan in the city plan.

He also said that a plan of underground parking facility would be included in the
city plan to overcome the present traffic problem in the city.

Earlier, the special secretary held a meeting with the officials of several departments including Jal Nigam, Varanasi Nagar Nigam, Transport, Varanasi Development Authority, Public Work Department, Tourism, Jal Sansthan, Pollution Control Board etc.
