A FRESH polio case was detected in Farrukhabad recently. On detecting the case, the Health Department issued a stern warning to the superintendents of Community Health Centre and Primary Health Centre on Saturday.
The letters were sent to the PHCs at Kakwan and Shivrajpur and CHCs at Bilhaur and Ghatampur, asking the superintendents to make foolproof arrangements to conduct polio immunisation drive to be held on March 9.
The letter issued by the chief medical officer following a meeting with the district magistrate urged the in-charges of these health centres to do away with lacunae that cropped up during the previous pulse polio campaign.
The superintendents were asked to work on war-footing and not to leave any discrepancies.
Out of 16 cases detected recently in the country, 12 belonged to Uttar Pradesh.
With the detection of fresh polio cases in Farukhabad, the health department officials suspect that the virus could travel from Farukhabad to the Kanpur city as both the cities are in one zone and several people commute between the two cities daily.
Muradabad tops the list with five cases, while two each were detected in Bareily and Budaun. One case each was found in Pilibhit, Bulandshahar and Farukhabad.
Though no fresh polio case was detected in the city for the last three years, following the detection of a fresh case in Farukhabad officials started working round the clock to cover most children. When asked about the polio threat following the detectation of a new case in Farukhabad, district immunisation officer Dr JP Mehrotra said that the case could not pose threat to the city.
