Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare on Friday threatened to repeat the Delhi fast of 2011 if the lokpal bill was not passed by the end of October.
"We will not take it lying down. I have decided to launch a fresh stir at the Ramlila ground in Delhi. The date has not been finalised yet, but it will most probably be in October-November. We will compel the insensitive political establishment to pay heed to the voice of the nation."
He said after Parliament passed a resolution in favour of a strong lokpal bill, the Prime Minister had forwarded a written assurance that "our requirements" would be taken care of.
"Two years have elapsed. Where is the promise that the PM made? Should we still believe him?" Hazare asked.
"This is an act of betrayal on the part of the government, which is refusing to fulfil its promise to the nation," said the noted Gandhian, who made a brief halt in the city while on his way to Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.
Referring to the split in his team that started the campaign for the lokpal bill, Hazare said, "The movement still has the same impetus and energy despite some of my colleagues launching political parties of their own."
He appealed to voters to choose a corruption-free government and not be swayed by rosy promises of politicians and political parties.
