Over 30 people, including seven cops, were injured in stepped-up violence on Friday as protesters defied curfew orders in Jammu and Samba districts and burnt a police station and 14 houses.
The protesters also stopped traffic in the Jammu- Srinagar national highway and laid siege of the Jammu airport virtually holding NC patron Farooq Abdullah and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti hostage for over two hours in Jammu.
Nearly 3,000 protesters defied curfew orders and assembled before the Raj Bhavan and shouted slogans against Governor NN Vohra and burnt effigies.
The mob became violent over the arrival of Abdullah and Mehbooba and resorted to stone-pelting.
It them went on the rampage and swooped over the nearby Panjtirthi police station and set it on fire.
Police fired teargas shells and resorted to baton charge to quell the mob.
They also fired several rounds in the air to disperse the mob. A policeman was injured in accidental fire and was shifted to hospital 19 people, including 4 cops, was injured in the clashes.
The protesters also burnt 14 houses in Khour area of the border tehsil of Akhnoor. In resulting clashes with police, four persons were injured.

The Jammu and Kashmir government imposed curfew in Jammu and Samba districts, comprising 37 police station areas, and section 144 in Udhampur and Kathua districts as a precautionary measure.
