The Montreal-based circus and entertainment giant is winding down a full bore scouting effort in Athens, hoping to turn gymnasts, synchronised swimmers, trampolinists and divers into its new generation of daring "artistes."

Seventeen former Olympians are currently on the roster of the globe trotting troupe, which prizes the discipline, athleticism and competitive fire of those who have dedicated their lives to amateur sport.

"We are covering a number of competitions, to bring ourselves up to date, to follow how people are doing, to monitor the progress of their careers," Cirque talent scout Florence Pot told AFP from Athens.

"I film the competitions, I am looking to capture the maximum amount of information possible. The most important evaluation work will be done when I am finished," she said.

Pot's is a familiar face around Olympic venues and in the hangouts where athletes relax, where she meets Olympians, their families, as well as trainers and members of athletic federations.

She already has her eye on several athletes, notably Swiss synchronised swimmer Belinda Schmid.

Brazilian twin sisters Isabella and Carolina Moraes, who will be hanging up their glittery synchronised swim bathing suits and nosepegs after the Games, have also expressed interest in the Cirque.

"I have left them my card, it's up to them to call me now," said Pot.
