Their first film, Flavors, has made waves at international film festivals. Directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK tell us why...

Tell us about the story. Why is it different?
With so many NRI films being made, we wanted to make one definitive film on Indians in America. We realised that no one story could be definitive enough. That is why the format of Flavors has multiple stories involving many unique characters. We wanted to take different cross-sections of Indians in America and show life as it is. Well, almost!

How did you decide on the cast of the film?
We wanted actors that everybody loves watching and at the same time were not over-used. We remembered watching Wagle Ki Duniya as kids and being thoroughly entertained. We couldn't think of two more lovable characters than these two veterans.

Tell us about yourselves...
We have very similar backgrounds. We met at Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh. We were actively involved in cultural events in college and we always wanted to do something creative. We took a brief detour to pay attention to our careers. So we went to the US to do our Masters and to pursue a career in Software Engineering. After a few years of software we thought it’s high time we explore the other side of our brain and do something creative.

Flavors was received well at the Asian American International Film Festival last year and got more such nominations...
When we started making Flavors, we were aiming at Indians everywhere. But once we finished the film and had it accepted at a couple of prestigious international film festivals, we realised that the movie was being appreciated by non-Indians as well.

What are your future films?
We make every movie like it’s our only film. That is our motto of sorts. Our main focus right now is to make a Hindi movie.
