Union minister Nitin Gadkari was the subject of numerous jokes on social media following his advice to farmers to use urine to water their plants, with some pointing to news reports that vegetables grown in his official bungalow in Delhi were reportedly shared with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Gadkari revealed his use of urine – which he described as “free homemade fertilizer” – to water the plants at his bungalow while addressing an event in Nagpur on Sunday.
Soon, Twitter was flooded with jokes about the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s unusual advice.
Some Twitter users pointed to news reports that the bungalow occupied by Gadkari was earlier the office of the defunct National Advisory Council headed by Sonia Gandhi and that its garden was used to grow organic vegetables for the Congress president. After the BJP won the elections, Gadkari reportedly informed Gandhi that she would continue to receive vegetables from his bungalow.
