Ahead of the next Assembly elections due in 2012, the BJP government on Friday launched its much-hyped ‘Atal Khadyann Yojna’ for below poverty line (BPL) and above poverty line (APL) families in the state.
Inaugurating the scheme at a function organised in the state capital, the BJP’s president Nitin Gadkari lauded the state government’s initiative claiming it would benefit Uttarakhand’s 30 lakh poor people.
“Let me assure you that with this scheme in place no poor in this state will die of hunger ever,” he said while addressing a gathering at Gandhi Park, which was addressed by a number of ruling party leaders besides veteran Congress leader and former state chief minister ND Tiwari.
Under the scheme, the BPL and APL families would be able to buy wheat and rice at a minimum price of R2 and R3 per kg and R4 and R6 per kg respectively.
