The best women's 100m hurdler in the past 10 years, Gail Devers is back to win the hurdles title in the Olympics which has so far deluded her. Devers is looking forward for her first medal in the 100m hurdles in Athens, her fifth Games.

She has been unlucky in the Olympic hurdles as in 1988 she was eliminated in the heats. In 1992, she led the final until hitting the final hurdle; she fell across the finish line in fifth. In 1996, she missed the bronze by .01 of a second. Devers' bad luck continued in Sydney when after winning the 100-meter hurdles at the US Olympic Trials and lowering the American record with the event's fastest time in eight years, was forced to pull out of the race due to injuries.

In 1995, she secured the No 1 US ranking for the first time in the 100-meter hurdles after winning the National Champion and World Champion titles.
