GAIL MD takes over as chairman & MD of gas PSU

GAIL marketing director UD Choubey has taken over as the chairman and managing director of the gas PSU.

Choubey, who was heading the marketing division of the company since May 2004, was selected from among half a dozen aspirants to head the gas transmission and distribution utility by the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PSEB).

The Cabinet Committee of Appointments subsequently ratified the recommendation of the PSEB.

Choubey, who joined GAIL in 1986 and is a known figure in the natural gas business, is a doctorate in hydrocarbons from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, a post-graduate in chemistry from Patna University, an MBA from Indian Institute of Business Management, Patna and an LLB from the University of Delhi.

Choubey joined GAIL in its formative period and has been associated with the marketing department since then. He was the first director (marketing) of the PSU and was responsible for marketing GAIL's complete range of products and services in the field of natural gas.

He has also authored a book, Text Book on Natural Gas, is widely traveled and has represented the country and presented papers at a number of national and international conferences.

Throughout his professional career, Choubey has played a leading role in the development of gas-related policies and is held in high regard by various stakeholders in the natural gas business.
