Gang busted, booty worth Rs 3 lakh recovered

THE CITY police have busted a three-member gang of vehicle lifters and robbers and recovered booty worth Rs three lakh from their possession. Superintendent of Police A K Singh told mediapersons today Nishatpura police had been tipped off about a suspicious looking youth frequenting the Housing Board Colony on a motorcycle without any registration number.

On that information, a police team reached the spot on January 15 and nabbed the youth and he was brought to the police station for interrogation. At first he tried to mislead the police, but on sustained questioning he confessed being part of a three-member gang of vehicle lifters and robbers.

He identified himself as Aslam alias Kala (20), a native of Vidisha, presently residing in Housing Board Colony in Bhopal. On his instance police managed to nab his accomplice Anil Mehtar alias Banti (19) also a native of Vidisha residing at Chola area here.

Both culprits confessed to having committed several vehicle thefts and robberies along with gang leader Brijendra Sweeper (24), a history-sheeter criminal of Vidisha currently living at Patel Nagar here. However, Brijendra managed to give a slip to police when a raid was conducted at his hideout. He is still absconding but police hope to nab him soon.
