AFTER a month, dacoits struck again at the State capital early Sunday. A gang of armed dacoits broke into the house of a retired lecturer TG Motwani in Vijay Nagar near Lalghati at 3.30 am and looted cash and jewellery worth over Rs 1.5 lakh.
This is the sixth dacoity in the Capital in three months. The police have yet to crack any of the dacoities. The daredevilry of dacoits took the police by surprise as the incident occurred when security has been beefed up in the City in view of Navratri and Ramzan.
Like in all the past dacoities, the modus operandi appears to be similar, suggesting a possibility of the involvement of the same gang.
CSP Ajay Pandey said the five youths, armed with a knife, country-made revolver and faces covered, broke into the house by opening the grill with a screwdriver and made off with around 14 ‘tola’ gold and Rs 7,000 cash. At the time of incident, Motwani’s son was away in Jabalpur. The dacoits tied Motwani, his wife and daughter-in-law after taking the keys and rummaged through the almirahs.
The gang left the house at 5 am. Motwani’s daughter-in-law somehow managed to free herself and inform a relative. Who then alerted the Police Control Room. After receiving information about the incident around 7 am, police personnel rushed to the spot, officials said. The dacoits also took away two cellphones and some watches. The Koh-e-Fiza police registered a case and are looking for the gang. In all the incidents, the grill was screwed open to gain entry into the house.
