THE WATER level of Ganga is constantly rising and has crossed its normal water level in different districts of Uttar Pradesh including Varanasi, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Ghazipur and Ballia.
The flood water of Ganga has submerged the ghats of Varanasi. The places of ‘Ganga aarti’ have been shifted to other ghats and shopkeepers have shifted their makeshift shops to another places in the apprehension of flood.
As per report of the Central Water Commission, the water level was showing increasing trend recording at 65.380 meter in Varanasi on Sunday morning whereas normal water level is 65.374 metres.
The river’s highest water level was recorded at 73.901 metres in Varanasi in the year 1978. The danger mark of Ganga in Varanasi is 71.262 metre.
In Allahabad, the water level was recorded at 77.530 metre on Sunday morning whereas the normal water level is 77.162 metre. The highest flood level in this district was 88.030 in the year 1978. The danger mark of Ganga is 84.734 metre.
Similarly in Mirzapur, the water level was recorded at 70.240 meter on Sunday morning whereas the normal water level of Ganga is 70.116 metre. The highest flood mark was 80.340 in the year 1978. The danger mark of Ganga water is 77.724 metre.
In Ghazipur district, the Ganga’s water level was recorded 59. 325 metre on Sunday morning whereas its normal level is 58.914 metre. The highest flood level was 65.220 metre in the year 1978 and danger mark of Ganga water is 63.105 metre.
Meanwhile, Ballia district was also witnessing rise in Ganga water and was recorded at 55.930 metre whereas its normal water level is 55.279 metrr.
The highest flood mark of Ganga water was 60.250 metre in the year 2003 whereas the danger mark of Ganga water is 57.165 metre.
