GDA officials held for thrashing journalists

THE EXECUTIVE engineer of the Gorakhpur Development Authority DC Srivastav and junior engineer Sinhasan Yadav were arrested for misbehaving with journalists and locking them up in their office. The jounalists had gone to meet the official in connection with the demolition of a house. According to reports, GDA officials and employees held captive former and present presidents of Gorakhpur Press Club Salabh Mani Tripathi and Shafi Azmi, along with other members of the newly-elected working committee of the Press Club, on Wednesday.

According to reports, GDA officials and employees held captive former and present presidents of Gorakhpur Press Club Salabh Mani Tripathi and Shafi Azmi, along with other members of the newly-elected working committee of the Press Club, on Wednesday.

In protest, presspersons blocked traffic movement on Gorakhpur- Deoria national highway and demanded to lodge an FIR against the executive engineer and other GDA staff.

According to reports, on GDA squad on Wednesday demolished the house of Salabh Mani Tripathi’s sister at Diwan Bazar on executive engineer DC Srivastav’s order. When some presspersons questioned the official, he misbehaved with them.According to reports, junior engineer Sinhasan Yadav and other employees bashed up few journalists.

The GDA officials then locked the room and held the journalists captive.

Soon it was free for all for half an hour. Senior police officials rushed to the spot along with ADM city, SSP and DIG and negotiated with the journalists who had also blocked the traffic movement in protest.

Secretary of Press Club Ritesh Mishra accused the GDA officials of using abusive language against the journalists.

He said one dozen office bearers including joint secretary Kamlesh Singh, auditor Durgesh Tripathi, executive members Laxmikant Dubey, Indrabhushan Dubey, Raj Srivastav and others were held captive by the GDA employees. The reation to the dharna had been quite good.
