Geelani was released by police at the Soura Medical Institute, where he was undergoing treatment since his arrest on November 17.

A local court granted him bail yesterday after which he was released, official sources said today.

Earlier on Thursday, a court granted him bail but he was not released by police and instead was booked in another case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Geelani, who is suffering from various ailments, was arrested in June this year for spearheading an agitation against the alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian in May. He was released after 95 days with a court quashing his detention under the Public Safety Act in September but was put under house arrest a day after he was freed.
