Syed Ali Shah Geelani is placed under house arrest, days after a case was registered against him under the Unlawful Activities Act.
Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was on Friday placed under house arrest, days after a case was registered against him under the Unlawful Activities Act.
The move comes a day after police detained six of his aides as they were about to address a press conference in Srinagar.
A case was registered against Geelani and four others under the Unlawful Activities Act after a rally in Srinagar on April 22 during which participants shouted pro-militant slogans.
Those detained on Thursday included hardline Hurriyat faction's acting chairman GN Sumji, Muslim League chairman Masrat Alam, Employees Conference chief Mohammed Shafi Lone, Democratic Political Movement chairman Firdous Ahmad Shah, People's League acting chairman Mohammed Yasin Attai and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal.
