Geelani had been put under house arrest after he addressed crowded rallies in many parts of the Valley in November.

However, Geelani's press conference, scheduled for Saturday, was postponed, Hurriyat spokesman Aiyaz Akbar said. This is the second time in a week that Geelani was not allowed to hold a press conference.
He said the amalgam chairman was not even allowed to offer Friday prayers in a mosque.

"Today, at around 9.30am, security forces and the state police personnel deployed outside his Hyderpora residence were withdrawn suddenly," said Akbar.

He said no reason was given for putting him under house arrest, or lifting the restrictions.

Geelani had earlier been put under house arrest in March this year. However, after the restrictions were lifted, Geelani addressed a series of public meetings in Kashmir Valley, leading to his detention on November 16.
