“He (Geelani) wanted to meet the doctors to aware them about his demand of demilitarization,” said Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar. The police, however, foiled his attempt and took him into the custody.

Geelani was later shifted to the Shergarhi Police station.

Earlier in the day, addressing a press conference at his residence, Geelani rejected any dialogue with New Delhi. He said his district-wise strike programme was not an agitation but a “very peaceful awareness campaign”. He has called for a shutdown on Friday in Pulwama district.

Reiterating his demand on the dialogue, Geelani said India has to accept Kashmir as a disputed territory, repeal the armed forces special powers and withdraw its troops before any dialogue.

Geelani accused the government of indulging in cultural aggression in the Valley and alleged educational institutions were being used for this aggression.
