I'm a retired defence service officer and want to lodge this public complaint. Am writing this mail with the necessity to publicise the arrogant and shameful manner in which public servants are doing the greatest disservice to the people of the country.
While there are millions who go without a meal in our country, these so-called honourable servants go about looting in the name of their respective services, which they dishonour. I recently travelled to Mysore, where I read the Feb 05, 2006 edition of the Deccan Herald, Hyderabad edition, where on the front page there was this story of IAS officers having bought plots of lands at ‘concessional rates’ were then selling it for crores.
The story had an encouraging news that the Government was trying to put a stop to it and even initiated steps to take it back. The same has been the case with ‘Adarsh’ housing society deal near Cuffe Parade, Colaba where many senior, serving and retired, officers of the defence services were involved in first surrendering the defence land to the govt quoting it that it was no longer required and thereafter, in collusion, with the state senior bureaucrats/police/ defence estate officer got the land released for ‘Kargil Heroes’.
There may be one odd chap to cover their backs, but the balance in the list of allottees are all those who had some role to play in the plot. This is but one of the many scams that are being allowed to go on unhindered. As far as the defence services go, they are no more a holy cow. The ‘water for fuel’, DNO at Naval Headquarters and ‘coffin’ scams are the tip of the ice berg. Why has the DNO – Naval Headquarters scam been buried under the carpet? Why has there not been a full fledged hearing? Why are the others being left?

The govt had then said that it would ‘do something’ and revert the decision. However nothing has been done, the construction of the society is on in full swing. Long live India’s independence. If this is allowed to pass, then, alas, we have no locus standi as a society.
Somebody, somewhere has to do something. Please print this letter as a ‘Letter to Editor’ and for heavens sake give it the publicity it deserves, as a dutiful citizen of this country. To start with, the Adarsh society by the so ‘adarsh’ people has to be disintegrated and the land reverted back to the defence estates. There are numerous requirements for land at Colaba.
Please do the needful. The people of this country deserves a better chance.
