It seems that technical hitches go side by side with Indian driver Gaurav Gill in the Malaysian Rally. In the very first stage of the second day of the rally's 2012 edition at Johor Bahru, Gill had a tyre puncture and then from the fourth stage onwards an electrical error occurred in his car, restricting his Skoda Fabia S2000’s top speed to just 70km/hour.

Still, the MRF team driver managed second position at the end of the second day. Proton’s Per-Gunnar Andersson leads the timesheets by one minute and 22 seconds after winning the most number of stages.

"In two stages I had a problem because of which I lost time, but for the rest I did pretty well and was ahead of everyone. But tomorrow I have to be at my best of the best, because its really difficult to cover the gap of one minute and 22 seconds," said Gill.

"In the previous race of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) in Australia too I had a similar voltage problem, because of which the computer of the car stopped functioning and I could not accelerate beyond 70km per hour. Because of the speed problem even after clocking the best timings in four of the seven stages, I was unable to make up for the lost time," he added.
