Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday said his party is contesting Lok Sabha polls to send trusted and credible representatives from Jammu and Kashmir to Parliament to take up people’s issues in a vociferous manner.

"Give us a decisive mandate and we will solve Kashmir issue by involving all stakeholders. The PDP has the potential to evolve a consensus on resolution of the problem," Sayeed told roadside meetings in Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who is Sayeed's daughter, is constesting the Lok Sabha elections from the south Kashmir constituency which will go to hustings on April 24.

Seeking support of the people in solving all contentious issues, Sayeed said the PDP has created a new space within the democratic system for resolution of the Kashmir issue.

"Having emerged as a strong regional force, the PDP has to play a crucial role in the new democratic discourse for resolution of the vexed Kashmir problem," he said.

Sayeed termed the ongoing Lok Sabha polls as a historic opportunity to change destiny of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said with the overwhelming support of the masses, the PDP with fresh resolve and renewed determination will carry forward its unfinished agenda of Kashmir resolution and good governance.

Asserting that peace, development and people’s welfare form the core of PDP's agenda, the former chief minister said the achievements of the previous PDP-led government were very much visible on the ground and it had translated its promises into realities.
