Even AS citizens are getting proactive and taking an interest in the upcoming civic elections, film actors too are doing their bit to egg the public to get involved. The Bollywook brigade is urging them to vote in the February 1 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

“It is necessary for citizens to vote as the civic body plays an important role in their life. We are going to urge people to vote in large numbers,” said actress and former Rajya Sabha member Shabana Azmi, who flagged off Adolf D’Souza’s campaign in ward no 63.

Vote Juhu, a forum of several citizens, residential and local area associations, has fielded D’Souza to contest from the area. “My campaign will stress on people having a say in the administration,”said D’Souza.

“It is disgraceful to show off our potholed roads to foreigners and many times even the garbage is not cleared for days. To make the system accountable, it is necessary to have good corporators,” said actor Suresh Oberoi, who was also present at D’Souza’s event.

“Adolf is a friend who is actively involved in social work and hence we are supporting him,” said Mirza.

The Vote Juhu forum has appointed 29 representatives for various areas in the ward. These representatives will listen to locals’ grievances and present them before the authorities concerned.
