While the deadline for out-of-court settlements with farmers in Noida Extension ended on Friday, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has not been able to submit a status report in the Allahabad high court.
“The court had asked us to inform it by August 12 about the progress, but we could not do so, as lawyers from the contesting side were not available. The hearing will take place later,” said GNIDA CEO Rama Raman.
Last Saturday, the GNIDA had struck a deal with Patwari village, hiking the compensation from Rs 850 per sqm to Rs 1,400 per sqm. Of the 1,400-odd farmers, 1,000 are said to have signed the pact and most of them have accepted the hiked compensation.
Courts have set aside land acquisition in Patwari and Shahberi villages, affecting 26,500 homebuyers.
Other villages have also moved court. The court will hear all acquisition-related matters from Noida Extension, where 1 lakh houses have been booked, on August 17.
Meanwhile, Noida Extension villages continued to hold panchayats against land acquisition. At Amnabad, farmers of three villages said they wanted current market prices for their land. Around 200 farmers decided to file writ petitions against land acquisition.
