The last time it were here, the organisers regaled kids and adults with their jellyfish, albino frog and other exhibits that documented rare marine life in India. For their second edition in the city, Laukik Creation and the Central Institute of Fisheries Education are set to display 500 rare and endangered species of the fish at Aqua Life 2012. The exhibition starts on November 2 at Ruia College, Mutunga.
“Last time we had around 350 species, and saw a fantastic response from the crowds. Around 22,000 to 25,000 adults attended and God knows how many kids. So this time, we have upped the number of species on display to 500,” says Laukik Soman of Laukik Creations, the organiser of the show.
While fish like shark, piranha, oscar, catfish, and discus remain the main attraction of the exhibition, there will also be five huge sets for sea fish. Smaller varieties in various colours will be on display in tanks that are 3x3 feet in size.
“There are around 120 tanks in all. But the highlight will definitely be the aquarium, of 18 feet. It is the largest in India,” says Soman, adding that the tank would also play host to exotic plants.
Visitors to Aqua Life 2012 will also be given information about instruments needed to set up an aquarium and how to use them. They will also be told where to keep a fish tank as per vastu shastra. But there will be one small change this time. The last exhibition had seen some of the fish species and tanks being put up for sale for enthusiasts. This time that option will not be available.
