The record placed on the floor of the House reveals that since 2007, the state government has appointed 1,423 committees of which nearly half have not even met.

Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar questioned the wisdom of having so many committees, "when they either don't meet or don't decide on the issues."

He said that the Chief Minister himself is heading 25 committees.

The issue was raised during monsoon session, which began on Monday at Porvorim, near Panaji.

Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said that the senior officials can be contacted, if committees under them does not function.

BJP legislator Fransic D’Souza pointed out that there are several committees which are headed by Chief Secretary leaving him no time for his other administrative assignments.
