The security agencies in Goa today checked their preparedness to counter seaward terrorist attack, but claimed that the exercise was nothing to do with US President Barack Obama's scheduled visit to Mumbai.
Police spokesman Atmaram Deshpande said that operation Sagar Kavach was a routine exercise to check the preparedness of the agencies.
"It has nothing to do with US President's visit," he said, adding that Goa will be on general alert along with other states during Obama's visit.
"We have no intimation of whatever (about specific security requirement) and we have no role to play in the security aspect," Deshpande said when asked about Obama's presence in neighbouring Mumbai city.
Responding to a question on Goa's role, as it shares common waters with Mumbai, Deshpande said entire western states share common waters with Mumbai.
"We are just 105 km long stretch," he added.
Police said that Sagar Kavach exercise held today was a routine thing.
Goa had held similar exercise in last May. "This time, we were better than the last time," Deshpande said.
