Thousands of retired and serving Central government employees will no longer have to run from pillar to post to get proper medical care.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has empanelled a total of five private hospitals under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) in Gurgaon under its continuous empanelment policy.
While Kalyani Hospital on Mehrauli Road would treat general patients, four others have been named to provide specialty care for cardiac, urological and dental ailments.
Since November last year, the CGHS had not empanelled any hospital for general ailments due to non-agreement over the rates.
Dr SP Yadav, director, Pushpanjali Hospital, said, "Yes, some hospitals hesitate in coming forward to provide general treatment to CGHS beneficiaries because of differential rates that the government offers."
This decision would benefit approximately 48,000 beneficiaries in Millennium City. Sanjeev Kumar Saxena, general secretary, Gurgaon CGHS Beneficiaries Welfare Association said, "We were awaiting this decision for the last one year. Finally, some action has been taken and private hospitals have also been included under the CGHS continuous empanelment scheme."
The association had urged the government to include a hospital for general patients in the list of empanelled hospitals.
