Good work despite fund crunch

CSA UNIVERSITY Vice-Chancellor Dr VK Suri said that the university had done a commendable job in the field of agro-research and agro-production despite shortage of funds.Addressing the first alumni meet at the CSA on Saturday, Dr Suri said in its 100 years of existence, the institution earned a name for itself in the global agro-academic circle and many crops developed by it were popular in other countries. Dr Suri said that besides government assistance, the varsity was also making its own efforts to generate resources to meet its budget.

Addressing the first alumni meet at the CSA on Saturday, Dr Suri said in its 100 years of existence, the institution earned a name for itself in the global agro-academic circle and many crops developed by it were popular in other countries.
Dr Suri said that besides government assistance, the varsity was also making its own efforts to generate resources to meet its budget. But these efforts were not enough to attain its objective. He said the distinguished alumni, however, could help their alma mater by way of extending possible assistance.

“Students needs better placement opportunities, better equipment and research facilities which can be possible by financial assistance from the alumni,” he said adding that the faculty needed knowledge up-gradation and improved lab facilities for carrying out researches.He also highlighted the fact that the university was on the forefront of research and raising crop production. Its scientists had developed several indigenous systems of raising crop production with assistance of newer varieties of the crops like wheat, rice and pulses.

Scientists like Dr VS Mathur had developed 31 varieties of wheat, TR Mehta had contributed by developing the most nutritious variety of tomato and other vegetable crops while YL Naina had discovered the treatment method of “Khaira Disease” in the crop, he said. Their researches had benefited a large number of farmers all over the world, he added.
