Google hot searches for 2007

While Sania Mirza was the top sports star, Aishwariya Rai, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan were the most searched after Bollywood celebrities, writes Puneet Mehrotra.

Google India on Tuesday released the most searched words in India. The sex quotient seemed very high amongst Indian net users. While Sania Mirza was the Top sports star, Aishwariya Rai, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Shah Rukh Khan were the most searched after Bollywood celebrities.

Interesting the Mahatma also found a following in net generation. Mahatma Gandhi, was the most searched political leader. With electronic networks changing the way the way we interact with amongst friends and family, Orkut was the fastest rising search query in 2007. Kerala followed by Singapore, Goa, Australia and London were the most searched places of interest in Google.

The report was released by Google yesterday as a part of Google Zeitgeist report for India - the fastest rising and highest volume search terms that users from India have been submitting to Google, in 2007. According to Google "We studied the aggregation of billions of search queries people from India conducted on Google."

NASSCOM releases report on IT Adoption in Auto Industry

NASSCOM on Wednesday released a report on 'IT Adoption in the Indian Auto Component Industry. The report aims to understand the IT adoption challenges faced by manufacturing industry firms, especially in the SME segment and bring in an understanding of IT adoption thresholds, challenges and processes in different segments of the Indian auto component sector.

According to the report IT adoption among manufacturing firms in India is rather low. Supply chain management (SCM) has been ranked as the most critical challenge by business unit (BU) heads. Some of the other challenges include fluctuations in raw material costs, meeting customer demands for product quality & timelines and procurement of raw materials, reiterating the importance of the supply chain. The diversity in the manufacturing sector is very high; apart from differences in firm size, sector specific peculiarities can also play a role in the processes of IT adoption.

While policy initiatives to encourage adoption have been explored, the report also tries to list the process of IT adoption by firms along with the constraints faced by them.
