Foodies in the city have reason to rejoice. Mumbai’s popular gourmet food retail chain, Godrej Nature’s Basket, set shop in Defence Colony last week. A second store is set to open in Greater Kailash this week, and five others are in the pipeline. From Le Cordon Bleu products, exotic fruits and vegetables and organic foods to a range of cheeses, cold cuts, etc, all vie for attention at this two-storey space. Fine wines, sakes and beer will be added to the list once it gets a liquor license.

“We see ourselves as a first of its kind world food retail chain. Right now, customers have to go from shop to shop; we combine everything under one roof,” says Mohit Khattar, Managing Director of the chain.

The USP of the store is an emphasis on experiential shopping — that means you can sample cheeses, teas, coffees, cookies and even cold cuts before buying them. There will also be frequent workshops on wine appreciation, wellness foods, etc.

The chain is a welcome addition to a city that boasts only a handful of such stores, such as the Le Marché chain that won the Golden Spoon Award for the Most Admired Gourmet Food’s Retailer of the Year at an event in Mumbai last week.
