Earlier, the ruling and opposition MLAs had angry exchanges over the mention by an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) member about presence of "Islamic" militant outfits in the state.

Congress member Abdul Khalleque objected to the word "Islamic" stating that it wrongly projected in a bad light an entire community.

Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) members supported the demand for expunging the word "Islamic".

Senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma agreed to the concerns of the members saying that the government was not in favour of showing a particular community in bad light.

Bowing to the demand of the members, the speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai expunged the word "Islamic" from the proceedings of the house.
