"Elections will be held on time," the governor told newsmen in Khunti. Asked about dates, he said it was a prerogative of the Election Commission.

The governor was in Khunti to mark the second anniversary of Khunti district. Khunti was bifurcated from Ranchi on September 12, 2007.

President's Rule was imposed in Jharkhand on January 19 with the assembly being put under suspended animation.

On September 9, all the 21 BJP MLAs and a nominated legislator had resigned from the house demanding its dissolution and early elections.

The current term of the house ends in March.
