Following the threat from The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC), director Mani Ratnam, who was planning a special screening of the film at IIFA, chose to not showcase his film there.

Actors Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram, music composer AR Rahman also did not attend the award function, not wanting to miff SIFCC.

As this weekend gears up for the grand opening of Raavan along with its Tamil and Telugu down south, Govinda's presence at IIFA has irked the Tamil protestors and they want to ban the film.

Govinda, who plays an important role modeled around 'Hanuman' in the film, attended the awards function at the behest of Salman Khan. "Not only did Govinda go when he wasn't supposed to, but chose not to remain low-key. He performed to an impromptu dance performance with Salman and Anil Kapoor at the grand finale," a source told Mid-Day.

Meanwhile, the entire cast and crew of Ravaan is irritated with Govinda for flying off to Sri Lanka and putting the future of the film in jeopardy. Probably this is why Chi Chi was missing from the promotional events where all other stars were present.

Clearing the air, Govinda said, "Initially, I had refused to go to Colombo for the show but when Salman himself called me and asked me to go I went. Mera farz banta hai. It was not my intention to hurt anybody's feelings."
