DESPITE HAVING incurred a whopping Rs 900 crore additional burden on the State exchequer to meet the financial demands of the employees in the past three years, the BJP Government on Wednesday failed to forestall their strike.
The government toughened its stand only after the employees went on the strike. “ Instructions have been issued to deduct salary of those participated in the strike”, Principal Secretary, GAD, Khushiram told Hindustan Times.
However, the government has so far not taken any decision whether to go for ‘break in service’, he said in reply to a question.
Employee unions are also divided on the strike. A section of the employee leaders admit that the government employees in MP had never had it so good. “When the State Government is considering employees’ demands and agreed in principle on the main demand of merger of 50 percent DA with salary, there was no need to go on strike ,” said president of Rajya Karmachari

In just six months, the government has increased DA by 11 percent, he pointed out. Government Employees Welfare Committee president Arvind Shrivastava termed the strike as ‘opportunistic ‘. “ In less than three years, the BJP Government has given more than what employees did not get in the 10 years of Congress rule,” he said.
