Acknowledging "gaps" in the intelligence apparatus, Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday told the Rajya Sabha that the "problem" is being addressed expeditiously to prevent recurrence of terror attacks.
He also advised all states to raise special anti-terror squads to meet the challenge of terrorism.
"Every state should have a dedicated police group which focuses on prevention, investigation and prosecution of terror crimes,"
Chidambaram said replying to supplementaries during Question Hour.
He said several states already have dedicated groups to deal with terrorist crimes. Maharashtra has Anti-Terrorist Squad while Delhi has Special Cell. Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal too have similar police groups.
Chidambaram said regional hubs of NSG would be set up in a "very short timeframe" but refused to set himself a deadline.
"We are implementing it as expeditiously as possible," he said.
Besides, Coastal Command with a mandate to protect the India's coastline would be put before the appropriate committee of the Cabinet shortly for approval.
"We have said that there are gaps in intelligence gathering and intelligence sharing. These are under my examination," Chidambaram said. "We recognise the problem (and) we are addressing (it)."
